Founded in 1727, by Maharaja Jai Singh II, Jaipur is among the first planned cities of India. Also called The Pink city, Jaipur is known for its magnificent architecture evident through the awe-inspiring palaces, grand hill forts and beautiful gardens. Even in the modern era, Jaipur is steeped in the history and culture that has been passed on since the royal Rajput families ruled Rajasthan. The culture and traditions are also reflected in the way food is prepared in Rajasthan. The cuisine of Jaipur in particular has been influenced by the lifestyle of Maharajas and Maharanis, with everything cooked in pure desi ghee. The city offers a wide variety of Rajasthani food with its typical spicy flavours. Some of the dishes to relish on a typical Brunch tour are tangy Pyaaz Kachoris; sweet and loaded with rich stuffing Mawa Kachoris; rich and creamy Lassis to wash it down; the good old dal baati served with hot garlic chutney and varieties of sweet churma. Another popular meal that one can savour is Bejar ki roti with gatte ki sabzi. If this doesn’t excite you, we’ve got non-vegetarians covered as well with the shahi delicacy that is Junglee maas, cooked in pure desi ghee with khada masala. For the ones with a sweet tooth, the desserts covered are numerous, varying from Mawa mithai, rabri, ghevar to juicy malpuas.
